    I knew it had something to do with bringing the side of the body with the arm being barred to the ground, I just wasn't aware of what do after that. Thanks for this video a decade later.

    Three primary goals of successful bottom wrestling: #1 Clearing hips (separation) #2 Hand control (you are accomplishing the same thing by sealing) #3 Chain wrestling

    Jon you are an amazing coach but I think you should not rule out singles with one hand on the mat to get up to your feet. Both do work. You have a valid argument with two hands (Zain Retherford finals) but guys like Kolat, and Zadick teach the exact opposite,

    Is this a type of sport where you lose when your hands touch the ground, or is this basic grappling training? just a bit confused on what's "Hand Fighting".

    • @footballgoof
      @footballgoof 9 років тому

      Hand fighting is gaining/maintaining control in the stand up position. It's all about gaining an advantage and taking the other wrestler out of his comfort zone. Get him in a bad position so you can get the take down.

    My son wrestle for Ferrum College and the did that move, and the ref stopped it.

    • @JonSioredas
      @JonSioredas 9 років тому

      A.D. Smith it is definitely a border line hold. some refs will stop it immediately, while others will let it go - as long as the arm stays on your opponents back. i actually hit this move in the state finals -- way back in the day...!!

      FYI - Melchiore calls this the "Perry tilt" (after Mark Perry's dad). Thanks for all your videos, some great stuff. Do you have a counter to a ball and chain?

  • @fgcapps72

    Won't the refs call you for locking hands around the waist?

    • @terryboyer8470
      @terryboyer8470 7 років тому

      Forest Capps no... you don't have control of your opponent and you could easily turn that position into a pining combination if he makes a misstep.

    I really like this video. I have to admit when I first started seeing videos about tripod standups I ignored them. I thought the practitioners must not know what they were talking about. After all, my high school coach had told us to never put our rears in the air in the referee's position because you would open to a cradle. And yet, toward the end of the video the coach discusses how to avoid being cradled by using a knee dip and hand control. So, I am seeing things a bit differently now and am open to this technique. I think learning a conventional standup is still a crucial part of a wrestler's education and yet I think there is value in learning the tripod standup as well and may work better for some at least in certain situations. Thank you. www.bestwrestlingmoves.com/ I appreciate someone downloading this video. I think this technique is great. Wish I could have tried it out back in high school. Thanks again.
